Sentencing Enhancement for Sexual Abuse of Children in Pennsylvania

by | Feb 20, 2014 | Megan's Law, SORNA

Pennsylvania has recently changed their body of laws dealing with sexual abuse of children from Megan’s Law to SORNA. SORNA has greatly increased the number of crimes that require sex offender reporting, reporting requirements, and the impact of sentencing.

On the first of this year, the Pennsylvania General Assembly took another step in strengthening the impact of SORNA on those convicted of an enumerated offense. This sentencing enhancement applies in cases involving child pornography when one of three factors are present: 1. the child victimized is below a certain age; 2. the number of images possessed are above a certain limit; or 3. the nature and character of the abuse.
